The B2G system is a bit different from other training plans. Rather than a set number of weeks or months to build towards one specific event, our training
plans are more dynamic and can be used continuously for multiple events (or just one). There are nine distinct levels that can move you from any given level of fitness and experience to any desired goal level. We suggest using the level guide to determine the appropriate starting level, based on prior experience. Then, also use the guide to determine where you'd like to end up. From there, work through the levels to achieve your goals! The longer you spend at each level, the more proficiency you can expect, but you should plan for a minimum of a couple months at each level.
Let's look at an example. Let's say an athlete has done a few sprints and just tried their first Olympic distance. They finished, but the distance was challenging. Based on this we'd say they're probably currently at the pink level-
or level 3! Now, let's imagine they have a goal of completing an Ironman. Based on our guide, to complete an Ironman they should get up to at least level 5, or work up as high as level 8 (most athletes shoot for 6 or 7), depending on their goals for the race, the amount of time they have before the race, and the amount of time they have to dedicate to training! Our B2G coaches will work with you to make these choices and come up with your specific strategy. For this example, let's imagine the athlete is a bit pressed for time to train and their goal is really just to finish the event. For this goal, we'd recommend at least a couple months at levels 3, 4, and 5- so 6 months minimum to train to finish the event. More, of course, would be better! If the athlete were to pick an event nine months out, we'd recommend spending 2-3 months at each level and targeting achieving level 5 or 6, depending on how they progress throughout the training period. Our coaches will work with the athlete to monitor their progress and recommend when to LEVEL UP!
For athletes that train and compete regularly, they can bounce up and down through the levels throughout their season depending on what's on their racing schedule! We have athletes regularly work their way up as high as Level 8 or 9, complete a big event, drop back to level 3 of 4 to recover for a few weeks, then start a new build for their next event. All levels are always available to all athletes, it's like a "choose your own adventure" training process!
What keeps this fun for the team is that, regardless of whether you're on Level 4 or Level 8, we're all doing the same training! If today is hill runs, all levels are doing hill runs. If it's long ride day, everyone has a long ride. The workouts are just scaled up or down in distance depending on the level! So, no matter your current level or your goals, we're always all working hard together as a team!
